Professional referrals

Most professionals who work with people under pressure, whether through divorce, life transitions, stress or physical goals, will occasionally see clients whose drinking has quietly become part of the picture. Not clinical dependence, but functioning adults whose drinking has drifted beyond where they want it, driven by habit, stress, routine collapse or unstructured time.

If that describes some of the people you work with, it may be worth a conversation.

Divorce therapists and counsellors

Drinking that escalates during separation is one of the most consistent patterns I see. It sits outside the therapeutic relationship, and it needs its own intervention.

The client overlap

Clients doing good work in sessions whose drinking has escalated alongside the separation, usually driven by routine collapse, unstructured evenings and stress they are not yet addressing at the source.

How we might work together:

I refer clients who need the relational, grief and co-parenting work that sits outside my scope. If you occasionally see clients where drinking has become part of the picture, a referral arrangement in both directions may be worth exploring.

Where this complements your work:

The behavioural and pattern side of drinking sits outside the therapeutic relationship. The stress response, the automatic evening drink, the habits that formed faster than anyone noticed: these need their own structured intervention alongside the emotional work.

As well as our BAC System™ and coaching, for clients who require a formally recognised framework, a CPD-accredited programme is now available: Managing Alcohol Consumption During Divorce and Separation: A Behavioural Framework.

Divorce lawyers

Clients going through proceedings sometimes need more than legal support. Structured, documented moderation coaching can be part of that picture.

The client overlap

Clients whose drinking has increased during proceedings and who would benefit from a structured, documented approach to addressing it.

Where this complements your work:

The BAC System™ is a structured 10-chapter moderation programme with measurable, documented progress. A client actively working through a structured moderation programme, with measurable progress, is better placed than one who is not.

For clients who require a formally recognised framework, a CPD-accredited programme is now available: Managing Alcohol Consumption During Divorce and Separation: A Behavioural Framework.

How we might work together:

If a client's drinking is a factor and they are open to structured support, early intervention is considerably more useful than late intervention.

Life coaches

You cover all the bases your clients need. But when drinking is the thing they cannot shift alone, that is where specialist support makes the difference.

The client overlap

Clients who are functioning well in most areas but drinking more than they want to, and who raise it as something they cannot seem to shift on their own.

Where this complements your work:

You are skilled at what you do. Alcohol moderation is a distinct specialism, and when a client's drinking needs dedicated attention, bringing in focused support gives them the best chance of achieving the outcomes you are both working towards.

How we might work together:

A referral in both directions when the need arises. We are also building a directory of trusted professionals to recommend to our own clients when they need support beyond our scope. If there is a fit, that is a conversation worth having.

Fitness coaches and personal trainers

Clients committed to their health often hit a ceiling that training alone cannot move. Alcohol is often part of the reason.

The client overlap

Most clients in this position are not dependent. They need a structured moderation approach that fits their identity as someone already invested in their health, not a referral to a treatment service. That is a gap the BAC System fills directly.

Where this complements your work:

You are skilled at what you do. Alcohol moderation is a distinct specialism, and when a client's drinking needs dedicated attention, bringing in focused support gives them the best chance of achieving the outcomes you are both working towards.

How we might work together:

If a client raises alcohol as a factor in their progress, there is a structured, non-clinical option you can point them to with confidence.

FAQ

If a client mentions their drinking as something they cannot seem to shift on their own, that is usually the signal. The clients who benefit most are functioning adults whose drinking has drifted or hardened into habit. If there is any indication of physical dependence, the right first step is a GP or WithYou rather than a moderation programme.

No. The work here is behavioural and pattern-focused. It is designed to run alongside therapy, coaching or any other professional relationship, not compete with it.
